Macon Rally
The Monaco International Pre-Rally in
Macon, Georgia had some surprises, revised some
traditions and was an outstanding success. The
weather was great, except for one afternoon of rain,
which allowed everyone to try out their rally gift –
two umbrellas, two ponchos, a flashlight, and a mesh
bag to carry everything. Actually, the temperature
hovered around 70 degrees on most of the rally days.
Everyone attending the rally was able
to park on blacktop around the Coliseum and
Convention Center at the Macon Centreplex. The new
coaches were on display inside the Convention
Center, and the arena offered plenty of space for
the entertainment stage, dining tables, cocktail
hour bar, and a special surprise, the salad bar.
Each night from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM, during the
happy hour, the salad bar lines were open to
everyone. On the first night, the salad bar became
an instant hit, and had the attendees raving about
the change for the rest of the rally.
The rally brought back an old friend,
Scott Eavis, and his catering company, International
Catering. His Breakfasts and Dinners were
excellent. In appreciation of his great job, Scott
received a standing ovation when the entire catering
staff was presented to the rally attendees on
Thursday night. We can always depend on Scott to
serve us great tasting food without running out.
Speed is also important, and each night we were able
to feed everyone in around 15 minutes.
Everyone enjoyed the entertainment.
On the first night, a variety group (music and
comedy) from Tennessee was an immediate hit. The
second night was a funny comedian followed by a
dance band. The third night was a show band from
North Carolina, and for the last night, a county and
western band played dance music.
The Red Hat Luncheon was held in the
Auditorium in Downtown Macon. This historical
building has a stage, balcony and a large floor
area, which easily seated the 120 members of the Red
Hat Society. The trip to the Auditorium was
provided by two motorized trolleys. The short 5
minute trip was a treat for the ladies, and added
enjoyment to the event.
As usual, coaches were repaired,
seminars were conducted all day long, and the new
and elegant Monaco Coaches were on display. Good
weather, good friends and a very enjoyable time were
the ingredients to a great rally in Macon, Georgia!
We were honored to be the Rally Masters for this
rally. The rally is over, and our duties as
President of Monaco International are finished, so…
We will see you down the road, if not
before.
